Gender-inclusive housing

Our department strives to accommodate student's individual requests for inclusive and accessible housing, regardless of students' gender identity or sex assigned at birth.

We have three options for students preferring this housing:

  • Gender-inclusive housing by suite/apartment. A residence hall suite or apartment with roommates determined without regard to biological sex or gender identity. These individuals share a restroom (toilet, shower, sinks, etc.) within their unit.
  • Gender-inclusive housing by room. A residence hall room with a roommate(s) determined without regard to biological sex or gender identity. These individuals with share a community restroom (toilet, shower, sinks, etc.) in the community that is separated by sex (male restroom, female restroom).
  • Gender-inclusive communal housing. An entire residence hall floor where all individuals in the community live without regard to biological sex or gender identity (including roommate pairings, if applicable). These students share two gender-inclusive bathrooms which have private stalls for toilets with partitions going nearly to the floor and ceiling; and shower stalls with partitions going nearly to the floor and ceiling with individual changing areas.

These housing options are designed to provide affirming and supportive environments for transgender students, gender-nonconforming students, and the larger LGBTQIA+ student community. Gender Inclusive Housing participants and their guests must commit to maintaining an inclusive and welcoming living environment.
