The bachelor’s degree in psychology at the Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV examines behavior to better understand the mind. The program introduces multiple perspectives, including biological, cognitive, behavioral and psychoanalytic approaches, and emphasizes empirical research across human and animal studies. You may explore areas such as brain and nervous system physiology, cognition, learning, child development, abnormal psychology and animal behavior. Graduates develop analytical and research skills applicable to a variety of careers or to advanced study in psychology and related disciplines.
The Department of Psychology at the Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV offers a versatile major grounded in scientific research and the study of human behavior. Students build strong analytical and research skills that prepare them for careers in mental health, education, business and human services, as well as advanced study.
The College of Science offers educational opportunities in pure and applied physical sciences, earth sciences, life sciences, and mathematics. Professors in the College frequently earn statewide teaching excellence awards and are pioneers in their respective fields, with access to high-powered scientific facilities and resources to perform research on all seven continents. The College also encompasses three public museums that offer research and community engagement opportunities: the iconic Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center, the Museum of Natural History and the W. M. Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering Museum.
This degree offers a strong foundation in psychology. The curriculum serves as a base for a liberal arts education, or as a foundation for work in other fields such as medicine, law, business, human services, management, sales and the like.
Behavior analysis is a highly specialized field of study that is not duplicated elsewhere at the university. The behavior science degree allows students to become eligible for certification as Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBA), an internationally recognized paraprofessional credential. The curriculum also meets the standards for undergraduate program accreditation by the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI).
The psychological science degree is targeted for students who plan to continue with graduate studies in psychology. Students must take a wider variety of courses that are either required or greatly desired by graduate school admission committees.
