The economics major offered at the College is designed to prepare students for positions as economic and statistical analysts in business, government and nonprofit organizations, and for the teaching profession. In addition, it provides a strong foundation for graduate study and research in the fields of economics, business, public policy and law.

The Department of Economics at the Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV offers an economics minor to help students advance their knowledge of economic concepts and apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios. It is designed to prepare students for positions as economic and statistical analysts in business, government and nonprofit organizations, and for the teaching profession.
This 18-credit minor is designed for students who seek tailored economics training to complement their majors. The student must gain approval for this minor from an advisor in the Department of Economics, and must file an “Economics Policy Minor Program of Study” with the department. This form will list the upper division courses that the advisor approves.
The Economics department at the College of Business offers a Master of Arts in Economics degree program for students interested in furthering their understanding of economic principles and applications.
The mission of the Âé¶¹´«Ã½AV’s Master of Arts program in Economics is to provide advanced training in economics, to prepare students to be economic analysts in either the public or private sector in fields such as regional economics, data analytics, health care, or similar fields. The Master of Arts program provides the flexibility for students to choose a more policy-oriented or applied approach by allowing more electives than the MS. The MA degree in Economics has two options, a research-based Thesis Masters (Plan A), and a non-Thesis Masters (Plan B).
The Economics department at the College of Business offers a Master of Science in Economics degree program for students interested in furthering their understanding of economic principles and applications.
The Ph.D. in Economics program provides comprehensive training in theoretical and empirical economics, as well as fields chosen by the student. The primary goal is to equip students with analytical and quantitative skills to conduct independent economic research. Individuals with strong research skills are sought by public and private employers in a number of different types of businesses, as well as by other academic institutions.
Economists apply economic analysis to research and analyze economic issues. This involves the analysis of data using various statistical techniques and may include conducting cost-benefit analyses, interpreting and creating forecasts, or conducting economic impact analyses. Frequently, policy recommendations are derived from economic analysis.
